LUSTRE 2024

10 November 2024

Visited Lustre at Lakeside Arts, Nottingham yesterday, the show was a lot smaller than it had been in the past, but the standard of makers was very high as always. They no longer charge an entry fee, which I believe is a direct response to the effects of Covid, as small businesses are still in the process of trying to encourage people to visit and spend their money - and I’m guilty as charged as it is before Covid since I lasted visited this lovely show.

I spoke to quite a few of the makers and it was very encouraging to hear that the show had been well attended over the weekend and sales had been good - I couldn’t resist myself - I bought a small beautiful bottle by the glass blower Stuart Akroyd.

After a fab coffee and a chat with a dear friend, we then went and had a look at the joint exhibition which was in the same building, Grayson Perry: Man Hours and Paula Rego: Visions of English Literature - what a visual feast.

Grayson Perry had me chuckling while admiring his social commentary with which I don’t always agree with, but that is probably part of his aim - to create social debate. Paula Rego through her fabulous printmaking captured the very dark nature of nursery rhymes. An exhibition well worth visiting.
