Oxford Ceramics Fair 2024
28 October 2024
Yesterday I visited the Oxford Ceramics Fair for the first time, but I quickly realised while having a cup of tea in the dining hall that it was not my first visit to the school - I have previously been there to watch my son play a school hockey match many years before.
The Fair showed a fantastic display of a wide range of different artists and their work, from precise wheel thrown porcelain to gestural sculptural forms, and everything in-between - a real visual feast.
However I did find the exhibition a bit disjointed, not in the location of the exhibitors in 4 separate rooms over 3 separate buildings, but rather the atmosphere in 2 of the locations felt very subdued. The entrance location was lively, busy and felt exciting, the dining hall by its very nature was busy and bustling. The 2 other locations felt a bit forgotten and added on, however the ceramics and displays were just as impressive.
I also attended a talk by Miche Follano about the processes she has developed in her work and how her influences have informed her work over time.
I had a very interesting chat with maker Craig Underhill about influences on his work, chatted with Rachel Peters about her strong sculptural ceramic forms and a long chat with Toby Brundin CPA Business Manager and his mother…
Well worth the trip.
