Stand & Deliver - nature stand

21 November 2024

Using the Tibetan Cherry trees found on campus for the inspiration of this piece, I decided I would use a black Vulcan clay which I will leave unglazed.

I decided I needed to make this piece upside down, to try to keep the top of the stand as flat as possible. I started by cutting the bark pieces with a knife, but very quickly decided I needed to revert to the technique of tearing the clay which I had used on the maquette. I wanted this piece to be in complete contrast to the tin vessel, more organic with random shapes - so I tried not to over think the applying of the torn bark pieces, but rather to let it grow in the moment.
